Officials from the Louisiana National Guard are not releasing the names of the servicemen involved in last night’s helicopter crash over Navarre Sound and are still calling the operation a search and rescue.
At a press conference in Louisiana, Maj. Gen. Glenn H. Curtis said the accident occurred Tuesday night when two Black Hawk helicopters were involved in a training mission. Officials said both helicopters took off, but one turned around most likely because of weather conditions.
Officials said the crew had several thousand hours in the cockpit and in combat.
Notification officers alerted families to the accident at 7 a.m. and support staff was available.
We’ll have more information as it becomes available.
