It took a flatbed tow truck to haul off a 10-foot 9-inch mako caught Feb. 19 at Navarre Beach.
Joey Polk and his cousins, Earnie Polk and Kenny Peterson, along with Curt Pond, teamed up to reel in the
massive underwater predator. Others helped them bring it to shore.
The majority of the Polks’ catches are tagged and released to aid NOAA research, but this shark was harvested
for its meat.
