A 16-year-old Gulf Breeze resident is in critical condition after the Subaru Legacy he was driving had a “mechanical problem,” causing him to lose control.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Aaron D. Scott was traveling west on U.S. 98 at about 2:45 p.m. Wednesday when his left rear tire suffered a mechanical issue. Scott traveled over the raised median onto the eastbound lane, where a Ford F150, driven by Andrew Blanton, 34, hit the front of his vehicle.
Scott was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital via Life Flight.
Blanton and his passenger, Bailey Blanton, 7, both of Milton, were transported to Gulf Breeze Hospital with minor injuries.
The accident occurred at 5426 Gulf Breeze Parkway in front of Midway Mini Storage.
Eastbound traffic was down to one lane.
