Sir Isaac Newton could have told you so: There would be consequences to tinkering with the timing of traffic lights in the City of Gulf Breeze in an effort to smooth vehicular flow on Highway 98.
The 17th Century physicist unintentionally forecast the city’s newest challenge for motorists when he wrote his celebrated Third Law of Motion: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Mayor Matt Dannheisser recently summed up the reaction to the traffic light changes at the intersection of 98 and Daniel Drive, which is bracketed by a Publix-anchored shopping center and a high school: “More cars stacked up there than I have ever seen before.”
