The legal battle over a small stretch of beach on Santa Rosa Sound in the City of Gulf Breeze turned an expensive page Monday night when the City Council voted to hire a Tallahassee law firm to pursue an appeal.
The panel agreed to retain Messer, Caparello, an appellate specialist, in a move that will likely push its legal fees in the case near or past the $250,000 mark. But part of what’s at stake for the municipality is the possibility of losing a state court battle with two property owners that could force the city to pay their legal fees – estimated at about $300,000.
