Santa Rosa County in September applied for a $150,000 state grant to help fund improvements in Navarre Park, which would include development of permanent restrooms. Based on the grant application and its scoring system, the local application placed 80 out of 166 applications, which may be too far down the list to receive funding.
According to the county, more than $30 million in applications were submitted statewide, and unless the state allocates nearly $14.7 million to the grant program this year, the Navarre Park project won’t receive funding.
“For several years the state didn’t allocate any funds at all for this grant program,” said Santa Rosa County Special Projects/Grants Coordinator Sheila Harris. “They did last year but the funding level would not have been nearly enough to reach our project.”
