Gomillion gets nod for county executive post

Santa Rosa County officials are promoting from within for the next county administrator.

Tony Gomillion, a veteran Santa Rosa bureaucrat who oversees the public services division, was the unanimous choice of county commissioners during a meeting Monday in Milton.

Gomillion was one of three finalists and was selected over experienced top-level administrators with master’s degrees. Gomillion has a bachelor’s degree in business.

But commissioners indicated Gomillion’s record as he rose through the county’s ranks, as well as his ideas and attitude outweighed his lack of advanced education and experience at the chief executive level.

“I’ve watched him grow,” Chairman Don Salter said. “I’ve watched him change things in public services.”

Commissioner Bob Cole said Gomillion would not require “on-the-job training” because he knows the county well.
