Wreckage from last night’s helicopter crash has washed up on Navarre Sound.
Dense sea fog is hampering search and rescue and recovery efforts and is expected to persist.
“We’re not expecting it to dissipate,” Don Shepherd, lead forecaster for the National Weather Service office based in Mobile, Alabama said.
Shepherd said a dense marine fog advisory is in effect until 1 p.m. but will “likely” be extended.
“When you have onshore wind flow blowing warm, moist air over cold water dense fog will persist. It’s the time of year this happens. It’ll often persist for days,” Shepherd said, pointing out fog is expected to remain over waterways today and tomorrow. “It’s not going to lift from the water for awhile,” he said.
