First responder rescues man after boat capsizes

The Navarre Beach Fire Department rescued a man Thursday afternoon when his sailboat capsized in Navarre Sound.

Beachgoers said they saw the boat sailing around the Sound for the past week. Kevin Rudzki of Juana’s Pagodas on Navarre Beach noticed the 14-foot Sunfish capsize and immediately called in the “man overboard.”

Firefighter and paramedic Corey Mayhew rescued the man with the department’s jet ski and brought him to the boat ramp where an ambulance was waiting. The man, who would not give his name to the first responders, was not injured and did not require medical attention.

Representatives from Florida Fish and Wildlife were also on scene. Investigator Sulin Schafer said the man has 10 days to “self-report” the incident on a form provided at the scene.
