A small fire broke out in the laundry room of the Santa Rosa County Jail on East Milton Road Friday evening at approximately 7:15 p.m..
According to a statement issued by Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Rich Aloy, deputies and detention personnel responded to an alarm in the laundry facility where a dryer was on fire. The fire was quickly extinguished with help from local fire departments and Sheriff’s Office staff. There are no indications of foul play at this time.
The laundry facility is in a separate wing from inmate populations. No inmates were in the area during the course of this incident and there were no evacuations. One Sheriff’s Office detention deputy was taken to a local area hospital as a precautionary measure for smoke inhalation.
No services to the facility were disrupted and the facility remains in full operation.
