On the first day of Fire Prevention Month, Oct. 1, a residential structure fire at 7703 Manatee St. left the house a total loss.
According to Holley-Navarre Fire District Battalion Chief Howie Rounsaville, the two-alarm fire broke out while the homeowners were there and may have been burning for some time before the fire department was called.
Rounsaville said the husband was outside mowing the lawn and his wife was inside when a passerby noticed smoke coming from the eaves of the house.
