With a resounding voice at the polls, more than 57 percent of registered voters in Santa Rosa County cast their ballot in the 2018 mid-term election.
In the U.S. Senate race, Rick Scott (Rep) received an overwhelming 74.5 percent of the vote over Bill Nelson (Dem), while in the state overall Scott had a slim margin of 50.43 percent over Nelson’s 49.57 percent with 99% of the precincts reporting. This race is currently too close to call.
In the state results, State Representative for District 1 Matt Gaetz handily defeated Jennifer Zimmerman 67.35 percent to 32.65 percent of the vote.
In a race that went to the wire in the state results, DeSantis (REP) defeated Gillum (DEM) with 49.95 percent of the vote to 48.83 percent. Locally, DeSantis garnered 74.25 percent of the vote. Final state numbers will be posted tomorrow.
Ashley Moody (REP), candidate for Attorney General defeated Sean Shaw (DEM) with 52.49 percent of the vote. Locally, Moody received 76.32 percent.
State Representative District 3, Jayer Williamson (REP) defeated Bobbi Osborne (NPA) with 77.71 percent of the vote.
In the Santa Rosa County District 2 Commissioner’s race, Bob Cole (REP) defeated opponent Kris Long (NPA) with 72.93 percent of the vote.
In the non-partisan race for Holley-Navarre Fire District Seat 5 commissioner, Todd Tolbert received 67.37 over incumbent Kevin VanValkenburgh.
Locally and state-wide, all constitutional amendments passed with yes votes.
