Santa Rosa County may finally have a courthouse location. Following a contentious discussion period, the Board of County Commissioners voted 3-2 Thursday to make an offer on the site owned by JDL of Santa Rosa, LLC for the construction of a new courthouse and judicial center. The 13 to 19 acre site is located on Avalon Boulevard near Mulat Road.
After leading an effort to defeat a motion to proceed with cost analysis of three remaining sites, District 1 Commissioner Sam Parker spearheaded a new motion to make an offer to JDL of $850,000 with a 75-day due diligence period. Following this, if the board voted to move forward they would have 30 days to close on the property, Parker said.
Commissioner Don Salter and Vice Chairman Bob Cole supported Parker in the motion. Chairman Rob Williamson and Commissioner Lane Lynchard voted against it.
