Thelma Denise Lowery, the Milton day care owner charged with first-degree murder in the Nov. 10 death of a 16-month-old toddler in her care, has been assigned a Walton County judge. The case will not be transferred to Walton County, but Walton County Circuit Judge Kelvin Wells will preside over the case.
According to the State Attorney’s Office, some members of the victim’s family are local law enforcement officers, and that prompted Santa Rosa County judges to recuse themselves from the case. Assistant State Attorney Angela Mason will serve as prosecutor.
