A cyclist was transported by Lifeguard helicopter 1 after hitting an object while traveling south on Highway 87 on the East River Bridge.
Lt. Nathaniel Davidson with Holley Navarre Fire District confirmed the cyclist was alert and conscious at the time of the transport. The injured cyclist had been traveling with another cyclist when an object in his path apparently stopped his forward progress immediately. Davidson said they were not sure what the object was, and that it might have been a piece of rubber or a rock.
“They were traveling between the white line and the retaining wall so they were where they were supposed to be,” Davidson said, adding that the cyclists were traveling at an estimated speed of 20-25 mph.
There were no vehicles involved in the accident and the cyclist was wearing a helmet.
