Santa Rosa County has been awarded a $50,000 grant for improvements at Navarre Park, and the Navarre Chamber Foundation is providing an additional $5,000 toward the effort.
According to Santa Rosa County Grants Director Sheila Fitzgerald, plans include $18,000 for construction of an ADA accessible kayak launch with a pathway, $15,000 for special needs playground equipment, $10,000 for installation of a picnic area featuring a shade structure and $5,000 for improvements to the basketball court, including filling cracks, repainting, restriping and new goals and nets.
Additionally, $2,000 is included for installation of native landscaping, a hedge row, between the parking lot and U.S. 98.
Mike Sandler, president of the chamber foundation, said the foundation’s funds are not earmarked for any particular improvement. “Let’s get $50,000 of improvements and have $5,000 on top of that,” he said.
Fitzgerald said the chamber foundation’s support was aimed to help the grant application achieve a higher score through the competitive Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program.
