Rep. Jeff Miller, R-Fla., has announced his retirement, saying he will not seek re-election in 2016 after having served eight terms.
Miller, The Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman and Florida’s 1st District representative said in a statement, “Fifteen years ago when Vicki and I were praying about running for Congress, we could have never imagined what may lie ahead. As we made our decision we knew there could come a day when it would be time to pass the torch. That day has come, and I am announcing I will not seek re-election to Congress.”
The National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Greg Walden spoke fondly of Miller saying, “Congressman Jeff Miller has been a trusted voice for his North Florida constituents and his leadership will be sorely missed in the House of Representatives. Jeff has been a fierce protector of our nation’s veterans as the Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, and his successor will have very large shoes to fill.”
