A man allegedly drowned along Navarre Beach Tuesday morning as Hurricane Michael caused double red flag conditions.
Witness statements lead first responders to believe that a man seen entering the water likely drowned in the high surf though no body has been recovered.
According to Navarre Beach Fire Chief Danny Fureigh an approximately 30-year-old man was spotted by multiple witnesses entering the water near 9:30 a.m. Cell phone video showed the individual entering the surf he said.
The man was spotted near lifeguard tower 1 entering the water despite posted double red flags and an advisory that the waters are closed to the public. He was not spotted again.
Navarre Beach Fire is currently performing hourly patrols searching for the individual. Beachgoers are advised that the water is closed to swimmers. Double red flag conditions mean high surf and strong currents.
