The so-called modern day ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ suspects were shot during a standoff with police early Friday morning in Milton. Blake Edward Fitzgerald, 30, was killed and his girlfriend, Brittany Nicole Harper, 30, was shot multiple times and was transported to a local hospital.
The Missouri couple, wanted for kidnapping, burglary and theft are the suspects in a crime spree that began on Sunday in Alabama where they allegedly kidnapped a hotel clerk, stole his car, drive to Vestavia Hills, Ala., released the hostage and abandoned the stolen car. They are believed to have entered a home with the family present, with a handgun and stole the family’s car forcing the wife to go with them against her will. She was later released in Birmingham.
The spree continued on Monday when it is believed they robbed a convenience store in Georgia also kidnapping and later releasing the clerk from the store. They are suspected to be responsible for two additional robberies that took place in Florida and most recently in Okaloosa County.
The Santa Rosa County portion of Friday morning’s shooting began just after 12:30 a.m. when the Sheriff’s Office was notified that the suspects were headed into Santa Rosa County from Escambia County. The location where the shooting took place is near the intersection of Garcon Point Road and Hammock Trace in Milton, Fla.
