A bicyclist was fatally struck by a car early Thursday morning on U.S. Highway 98 in Midway.
The incident occurred near the cross street of Overdown Drive at approximately 1:45 a.m. According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, a Honda CRV was traveling east on 98 when the bicyclist cut across the eastbound lanes turning south.
The Honda collided with the right side of the bicycle, flinging it and the rider. According to the report, the bicyclist violated the vehicle’s right of way to make the turn.
The bicyclist was pronounced dead on the scene. The deceased has not been identified as authorities have not yet contacted next of kin.
The driver was wearing a seat belt, and alcohol was not involved in the incident. Charges are pending according to the report. Updates will be made as more information becomes available.
