Santa Rosa County Commissioners plan to continue working with federal delegates toward fee simple ownership on Santa Rosa Island, which would effectively eliminate Navarre Beach’s 2,020 residential beach leases.
In the meantime, the county is drafting an “equitable” Navarre Beach lease fee policy for consideration at the Feb. 9 commission committee meeting.
After the Florida Supreme Court last year upheld the assessment of property taxes on Santa Rosa Island, beach leaseholders complained it was “unfair” to be required to pay ad valorem taxes and beach lease fees. Commissioners decided to drop beach lease fees to $1 per year.
