Nancy Forester crossed “rescuing a bald eagle” off her bucket list last week. Forester, a volunteer docent with the Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge (ECWR), frequently receives calls to rescue animals. Sometimes, she fosters them until they are well enough to go back into the wild.
“This eagle is a dream rescue,” Forester said.
According to Brittany Patrick, animal care supervisor and stranding coordinator for ECWR, the organization received a call from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission about an eagle who couldn’t fly.
“The veterinarians preformed a number of diagnostic tests which revealed two pellets in the bird’s right wing resulting in a fracture,” Patrick said in an email.
