However, according to Associated Press, a judge granted a defense attorney’s request on Thursday to have another doctor evaluate Aydelott before the case is scheduled to go to trial.

Aydelott admitted to brutally murdering his mother, Sharon, a Holley-Navarre Middle School teacher, on Christmas Eve in 2013. He was 17 years old at the time and is charged with first degree murder. His mother was stabbed and bludgeoned to death inside her Crane Cove home in Gulf Breeze.

Aydelott has been in and out of a state mental hospital in Chattahoochee since he was first deemed incompetent to stand trial in January of 2014.

Aydelott reportedly confessed to police on the night of the incident that he had committed the crime after an argument with his 42-year-old mom in her Gulf Breeze home, where he did not reside.

After he was incarcerated he was also charged with battery on a law enforcement officer for a Jan. 2 incident at Santa Rosa County Jail in which police said he struck detention officers.

Aydelott was a 17 year-old senior and standout Gulf Breeze High School baseball player at the time of the slaying.
