In a competency hearing held earlier today Brandon Aydelott was ordered to be transferred to the Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee for a mental evaluation, which is expected to be complete within six months. During today’s proceedings, the court accepted two mental competency reports from a defense expert and court-appointed expert reports and placed them in the court record under seal. The court found Aydelott incompetent and ordered him to the state facility. Subsequently, his arraignment scheduled for 9 a.m. tomorrow has been cancelled.
Additionally, Aydelott has been charged with battery on a law enforcement officer for an incident which took place at Santa Rosa County jail. He was arraigned on both cases today and entered a plea of not guilty.
William Brandon Aydelott was charged with the murder of his mother, Sharon Aydelott, on Christmas Eve, 2013.
