A 74-year-old Navarre woman was killed May 15 after her car collided with an ambulance along East Bay Boulevard.
Passenger Karen Leonard was killed after her vehicle was flipped on its side according to a Florida Highway Patrol accident report. According to the report, the ambulance was traveling southbound along Robedal Drive approaching East Bay Boulevard at around 9:30 p.m. The ambulance was being driven by Navarre resident Sydney Blalock, 20.
At the same time, a 2016 GMC Sierra driven by Robert Leonard, 76, of Navarre was traveling eastbound.
Blalock proceeded through the intersection in front of the oncoming GMC. The front of the ambulance collided with the left front side of the GMC according to the report.
The impact caused the GMC to flip on its side coming to a rest in the ditch on the south side of the road. The ambulance was spun out across the road.
The GMC passenger, Karen Leonard, was transported to Gulf Breeze Medical Center but died of her injuries. The GMC driver was transported to Baptist Hospital with serious injuries.
Blalock was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital with serious injuries.
Charges in the incident are pending.
