After receiving feedback from Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, Santa Rosa County Commissioners are expected to suspend an existing lease credit policy at their Oct. 23 meeting.
Last month Santa Rosa County Attorney Roy Andrews advised commissioners the existing policy and a plan to reduce beach lease fees to $1 per year might be unconstitutional, so they directed him seek an opinion from Bondi.
Although an Oct. 1 response says her office does not have authority to review and comment on local policymaking, it suggests an opinion which found two similar Santa Rosa Island Authority policies unconstitutional would be applicable.
A discussion of future actions related to beach lease fees is planned for the board’s Nov. 10 committee meeting.
