2 arrested in animal control officer incident

Twenty-year-old Cody Tompkins from Pace is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office reports one adult and one juvenile were arrested Saturday for allegedly assaulting a Santa Rosa County Animal Control Officer.

According to the report, the incident happened in the 5100 block of Hamilton Lane in Pace after the animal control officer had placed dogs in her vehicle.

Deputies were called to the scene after one suspect allegedly fired shots and another beat the vehicle with a baseball bat.
