Alexis Grove had just played her practice round on the South/East Course at Killearn Country Club in Tallahassee on a Sunday afternoon in mid-October.
It’s the day before the District 1-3A tournament. The Navarre senior isn’t feeling too great about her performance ahead of the biggest day of the season up to this point.
“I thought I was going to do terrible (the next day). I did really bad on the practice round,” Grove said. “But I started off doing good and felt like maybe I was going to have a good day (in the tournament).”
She did indeed have a good day. She shot an 86 over 18 holes to punch a ticket to the regional as an individual. Her score was the eighth-best of the day.
“I felt I could have done better, but I was happy with how I ended it,” Grove said. “It’s an average score for me. It’s not terrible but it’s not my best.”
A rough back nine didn’t help her cause.
“I thought I had a chance after the first nine, but the back nine I didn’t play 100 percent,” Grove said.
