Alexis Grove fired a six-over round last Monday to lead Navarre’s girls golf team through another three-team match.
The senior suffered on two early holes on the Hidden Creek Golf Course. Otherwise, she would have broken 40 for the round.
“Recently I’ve been working on my swing coming more in, and that was good,” she said.
She said that her best hole of the day was number 7. She thumped a 7 iron just short of the green on the 130-yard uphill par three.
“I didn’t have a great tee shot; it faded too much,” Grove said. “So I had to chip on, and then I had this really long, uphill putt. I hit the putt really hard, and I thought it was going to fly past, but it hit the pin and went in the hole.”
That save preserved a string of pars on her round.
Well after her final putt dropped, she was still stewing on a mid-round hiccup.
“I’m still mad about hole 5,” Grove said to head coach Tish Boozer.
