One election night result that Tappie Villane can almost surely count on is that Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse will get some votes for President of the United States.
However, by law, the Santa Rosa County Supervisor of Elections isn’t required to tabulate or record such prank ballots.
No matter that the cartoon characters, among others, may get significant support in competition with a half-dozen legally registered write-in candidates for the nation’s top office who will appear on the Nov. 8 ballot.
Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck “are usually the big winners of the write-in votes during a general election,” Villane told a reporter.
In an election year when both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are receiving high unfavorable marks in polls, many voters say they may abstain. Others may write in candidates. But for those votes to be valid in Santa Rosa County, the write-in names must have been registered -meaning their paperwork filled out – by June 24.
