It wasn’t a call-up in the sense that a player finds out he is headed to the next level of minor league baseball. Or for those most fortunate, the Majors.
But Minnesota Twins prospect Willie Joe Garry Jr. received an unexpected early-morning phone call on a Thursday two weeks ago. He was asked if he would make the trip over from his home state of Mississippi to Blue Wahoos Stadium in Pensacola for the latest stop on the Twins Caravan.
Fellow prospect Jordan Balazovic was supposed to be part of the caravan but was held back by flight delays.
Garry didn’t hesitate to fill the void.
“I’m really blessed and grateful they called me,” Garry said. “This was my first time seeing the stadium and being in Pensacola. They had a hat and a jersey for me and I hopped on the caravan as if I was already supposed to be here.”
