Heart disease, diabetes and cancer are all issues the elderly deal with. But no issue is bigger for older Americans now than pain. It’s considered the No. 1 reason they seek medical attention, according to the National Institutes of Health.
That, of course, leads to the need for opioids to curb the pain, and use of opioids among the elderly increased nine times between 1996 and 2010.
