1 YEAR AND A DAY IN PRISON FOR THREATENING FLORIDA MOSQUES
The Justice Department reported 43-year-old Martin Alan Schnitzler’s sentencing in a news release Monday. He pleaded guilty in February to obstructing persons in the free exercise of religious beliefs. He had faced up to 20 years in prison.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said in a news release that 62-year-old Ronald Dick and his son were traveling about 30 mph when the 4- to 5-foot fish jumped into the boat Saturday afternoon. The release says Dick’s injuries were not considered life-threatening and that he was taken to a hospital for treatment.
FLORIDA JUDGE: NEW DEATH PENALTY LAW UNCONSTITUTIONAL
Judge Milton Hirsch ruled that it is unconstitutional because a unanimous jury verdict is not required. The new law, signed by Gov. Rick Scott in March, requires a 10-2 vote. Hirsch’s decision on Monday was in the case of Karon Gaiter, who is awaiting trial for first-degree murder.

ARMY VET ACCUSED OF KILLING MOM ON MOTHER’S DAY
Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s deputies received a call early on Mother’s Day morning. When deputies arrived, they heard yelling and the sounds of someone in distress. A police report says a bloodied 38-year-old Christopher Reed Lynch approached deputies, wielding an iron rod with a hook on the end. He became violent and deputies used a stun gun and placed him in leg irons and handcuffs.
