Staying active as you age can be a challenge but the Senior Games of Pensacola provides an opportunity for those 50 and older to get exercise and have fun at the same time.
The 25th edition of the event, which is sponsored by Humana, kicks off in early September and takes place over a two-week period. It features a wide range of events, with everything from archery and badminton to cycling and swimming on the slate.
Cheryl Fox, who works for the City of Pensacola and coordinates the games, said the physical fitness aspect of it is what draws so many to it.
“Exercise is a big part of it. It’s what drives them,” Fox said. “It’s a motivator for them to get up and go exercise. Exercise is a vital piece for anyone in life, especially as you get older. I’ve seen the difference it makes in my own father. His health has improved dramatically through exercise.”
