Jon Brown knocked down a 3-pointer near the midway point of the first half Sunday afternoon in the University of West Florida men’s basketball team’s exhibition game against Fort Stewart.
It would turn out to be the only shot he’d hit from beyond the arc. And yet, he still managed to score 15 points and grab nine rebounds in the Argonauts’ 80-64 win over the Bulldogs at the UWF Field House.
Brown shot just under 36 percent from 3-point range last season, connecting 28 times during a freshman season in which he earned rookie of the year honors in the Gulf South Conference.
The sophomore standout is hoping to build off that success this season. Coming out of Sunday’s exhibition against a team of former college basketball players who are now in the U.S. military, he knows there is room for improvement.
Brown went 6-for-18 from the field but just 1-of-9 from long distance. He also handed out five assists.
“I think I did pretty good. I just have to make some open shots,” Brown said.
