Evaluation finds Aydelott competent to stand trial

At a June 2 hearing, the judge granted a defense attorney request for another doctor to evaluate Aydelott before his case goes to trial. Dr. Scott Benson had not finished his official report which was due for the July 19 court hearing, however. Assistant Public Defender Scott Ritchie told the court the doctor has verbally stated the evaluation is complete and Aydelott is competent to stand trial.

“Right now, I don’t see anything to stop us from going forward once we get the report,” he said.

In previous trials, Aydelott had been seen muttering nonsensically. During this latest hearing, he appeared composed, only speaking when addressed by the judge.
