After 33 meetings spanning more than a year of contract negotiations, the Santa Rosa School District and Santa Rosa Professional Educators came to an agreement August 28. The agreement must still be ratified, but both sides are confident that it will be.
“This was the most difficult negotiations I have been part of. The performance pay piece was a very complicated issue,” said Santa Rosa School District Superintendent Tim Wyrosdick. “We had to find the right combination of grandfathered pay and performance pay.”
Florida Senate bill 0736 states that teachers hired after July 1, 2011 must be compensated according to the performance-based pay schedule. Teachers hired prior to the July 1 date have the option of staying on the grandfathered pay schedule or moving to the performance pay.
