If you were to observe a recitation during the third week of first grade at Gulf Pointe Latin School (GPLS), you would hear 10 young voices happily and excitedly recite from memory in their sing-song young voices: the seasons, the five vowels and the sounds they make, how many months there are in a year and their names, the number of continents, which continent they live on, and the names of the seven continents along with the first six lines of a poem they are learning, “Frogs at School,” by George Cooper. Remember, these students are fresh out of kindergarten.
GPLS began in 2011 with a kindergarten class of three.
