Genetic science comes to life at Woodlawn

Katy Knapp had never dissected anything in science class until last week.

The experience was an enjoyable one as she and her eighth-grade classmates at Woodlawn Beach Middle School in Gulf Breeze acted as citizen scientists, dissecting lionfish and putting together DNA samples of what they found inside the stomachs of the invasive fish.
