Arianna Clemente-Hunter wades through the warm water of the Navarre Sound and hops into one of the inflatable Zodiac boats at Hurlburt Field Thursday evening.
She and members of junior ROTC units from area high schools, including 12 cadets from Navarre High School, are about to experience what life is like on the water for the 24th Special Operations Wing of Air Force Special Tactics.
The cadets, participating in a weeklong summer leadership school on the base, are enjoying the thrill of speeding out into the Sound as rain begins to fall and lightning flashes in the sky off in the distance.
But the weather doesn’t put a damper on their excitement, which grows as the drivers of the Zodiacs show off the wide range of maneuvers the versatile boats can make.
Sharp turns, including some where the boats lean to one side and nearly dip into the water, highlight the ride which also features the boats bouncing over choppy waves created by the boats maneuvering in close proximity to each other.
