Sydney Whiteside didn’t get to be valedictorian of the Navarre High School Class of 2016 by taking it easy over the last four years.
“I did a lot of work, put in a lot of time and didn’t get a lot of sleep,” Whiteside said with a laugh in an interview Tuesday morning. “It was really about balancing everything because I played sports and had to learn to study for a test after getting home from Panama City at 11 p.m. It took a lot of dedication.”
The dedication paid off.
“I wasn’t expecting it but I guess I was kind of hoping I would be (the valedictorian),” Whiteside said. “It’s nice to know for sure.”
And it’s an honor that means a great deal.
