For West Navarre Intermediate School Teacher of the Year Elizabeth Baer, teaching has always seemed like a natural fit.
As a little girl Baer loved to play school, leading her toys through lessons. As she grew older, one history teacher’s commitment to her transformed that play time into a real-life career goal.
“It was a history teacher that changed my life,” she said. “He saw me for who I am among the sea of children, and I thought that’s what I want to do for somebody. I want to touch a child the way that person had changed my life.”
Baer aims to do that with her students by engaging them in self-directed lessons designed to spark their interest and curiosity.
