The Department of Environmental Protection made the decision at the direction of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
DEP has tried to continue to provide recreation opportunities at state parks during this time of dealing with COVID-19. Limiting hours and reducing visitor capacity has been part of its approach,
However, it hasn’t led to the reductions believed necessary to protect public health and safety as Florida battles to mitigate the spread of the virus.
