Arkansas’ charter bus is loaded up and ready to roll out of Fayetteville on a 90-degree Thursday afternoon in June.
The ultimate destination is Omaha, Neb., the home of the NCAA College World Series. But first up is a trip to Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport and a charter flight to Nebraska.
As Matt Cronin settles into his seat on the bus, he is on the phone talking with a reporter about what these past few days have been like for him.
Three days earlier, the Navarre alum is on the turf of Baum Stadium, with 11,217 fans roaring after the final out is recorded in a decisive third game of a Super Regional.
Cronin was the closer that night, working the final inning of a 14-4 victory, and because he was the one pitching in that moment, he was the player teammates piled onto to celebrate Arkansas’ ninth trip to Omaha in program history.
