City seeks second opinion on Tiger Point Golf

Although City of Gulf Breeze leaders are considering the excuses made recently by Tiger Point Golf Club’s managing tenant for the facility’s deteriorated fairways and greens, they have hired a landscape architect to scrutinize conditions there.

The city, which owns the club, brought in Atlantic Beach-based Robert Walker, who specializes in golf course inspections and remodeling. His report is expected later this month.

The move underscores the frustration of city council with Integrity Golf LLC, the Orlando company to which they leased the club last November.

“When Integrity took over, the course was in my opinion in very good condition – probably an eight or a nine,” Mayor Matt Dannheisser told the Navarre Press. “But by April it was probably a two.”

Questionable expertise

Integrity Golf President Gene Garrote appeared before the city council last week as requested by the panel. Despite the company’s boast on its website that it can handle virtually any challenge that arises in managing golf courses, he conceded that his employees and subcontractors didn’t know how to operate the club’s irrigation system.
