JetBlue will be the proud owner of the first A321 assembled at the Airbus facility in Mobile, Ala., in 2015. At this point, it is impossible to know what if any impact the $600 million project will have on northwest Florida. Airbus Director of Economic and Community Development Michelle Hurdle was the featured speaker Feb. 21 at the Panhandle Tiger Bay Club in Pensacola.
Hurdle told the group that the airplane assembly business is different from building cars. “Often times auto manufacturers tell their suppliers how close physically they need to be to them. That’s not the case with us. They can be located anywhere as long as they can meet our delivery and pricing requirements,” she said.
