What is this odd looking thing? What is it used for? How is this thing the beginning of fresh?
Pictured here is a dough hook attachment for an industrial mixer. Every day, several times a day, every Hungry Howie’s location, including the one here in Navarre, lowers a hook like this into a mixture of flour, sugar, salt and yeast.
Roughly 12 minutes later a large, warm and soft mass of dough is ready to cut by hand down to the desired sizes for Hungry Howie’s various sizes of pizza. That’s freshly made dough done every day.
That is where almost all Hungry Howie operators begin their careers. The first job for most of Howie’s operators is prep. Prep involves making pizza sauce, cutting vegetables, supporting the pizza maker, and of course, making the dough.
Hungry Howie’s operators, including Mike Westjohn here in Navarre, learn the business by being in the business. Howie operators are in their stores working with their teams and customers to make sure things are done right and are fresh.
