Looking for a challenge? Panhandle Breakout Escape Room in Navarre is the place for you.
Turn off Highway 98 onto Ortega Street in Navarre – 8764 Ortega Park Drive is the address – and that’s where you’ll find an escape room that offers worthwhile fun. Panhandle Breakout is located behind Cactus Flower Café and adjacent to Rx Express Pharmacy.
Family owned and operated, Frank Godbout didn’t even know what an escape room was until about a year ago when he gave one a shot with his two daughters.
“We had a blast and I said I have to open one here in Navarre,” Godbout said.
Panhandle Breakout opened last October and currently offers an escape room set in 1896. In the room, you are a detective in London and must solve a murder mystery to escape the room. You have one hour to do it and Godbout provides a few clues and hints because the room is considered 10 out of 10 on the difficulty scale.
A second room is being planned for those seeking a scary thrill, just in time for Halloween. The theme of the room will revolve around Ed Gein, a serial killer from the 1950s. The room you’ll walk into will feature the victim hanging by her feet.
“We want to make it as gory as possible and have a shock factor to it,” Godbout said. “You’ll be a forensic scientist gathering evidence to put him in jail. It will probably be a six or seven in terms of difficulty.”
The thriller experience is likely to be limited to ages 17 and up, but the first room is family friendly and open to people of all ages.
Panhandle Breakout is great for birthday parties and businesses, or a great place to gather with friends and have a good time attempting to solve a mystery.
“This is a great way to do team building because solving the mystery requires a team effort,” Godbout said. “It’s also a good way to spend time with friends.”
Godbout said he started the business merely because he loves what Escape Rooms have to offer to people and wanted to give people in Navarre something to do for fun.
He offers a 15% discount to members of the military and a 10% discount to first responders.
Panhandle Breakout is open Wednesday through Sunday from 2:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. and reservations can be made by calling 850-378-6386 or by sending a message on Facebook. Reservations can also be made on the website at https://www.panhandlebreakout.com/.
You may not escape the room within the 60-minute time limit, but you’ll at least escape the reality of the day and have a little fun along the way.
