Michael Blois has owned the British Pedlar located at 7552 Harvest Village Court here in Navarre for a little less than a year now.
And in that time, he took a business that was struggling in the past and turned it into a thriving one.
“We’ve been able to reinvigorate it and are bringing more people in to shop. I’m pleased with what we’ve been able to do in the time I’ve owned it,” Blois said.
The British Pedlar is overflowing with reasonably priced items, everything from a wide variety of frozen meats and pies to tasty chocolates and crisps. You’ll even find the second most popular drink in Scotland at British Pedlar, that being IRN BRU.
One customer told Blois he traveled all the way from Tallahassee to check out the store. After a pleasant chat with Blois, he ended up leaving with several items.
One time a lady came in looking for crumpets and found exactly what she was looking for at the British Pedlar. She had no luck finding them anywhere else.
“She was very happy about that,” Blois said. “We get that a lot.”
The interesting thing is Blois was once a customer himself at the store. The England native came over to the United States in 2008 and used to shop in the store when it was under previous ownership.
But it was never as well stocked as it is now, and Blois is always ordering items to keep the shelves full.
If there’s something a customer can’t find, chances are Blois can order it for you.
Live too far away to come into the store or perhaps you’d rather just shop from the comfort of your home? No problem. British Pedlar has a web site: www.britishpedlar.com that offers all the same items you’ll find in the store.
“We’ve shipped orders to Canada and even the UK and France,” Blois said.
Most online orders are within the United States but it’s saying a lot about the quality and variety of British Pedlar for someone out of the country to place an order with the store. And for cold items, have no fear of those being shipped. British Pedlar uses the latest shipping technology to keep items cool.
Specializing in British gifts and groceries, the British Pedlar strives to provide customers with that home away from home feeling for those who may be from England or perhaps lived there at one point while stationed there. But the store appeals just as much to Americans who enjoy various grocery items you can only find in a store such as British Pedlar.
There is even a newsletter you can subscribe to in order to keep up with when new shipments arrive in the store. Customers can sign up for the email newsletter on the web site.
Blois would love to expand his business at some point and is always testing out new products in the store. It won’t be long before Christmas items are in the store.
So, for the closest thing to a British shop without having to grab your passport and fly across the Atlantic Ocean, the British Pedlar is the place to be.
