As many South Santa Rosa County residents have noticed, gas prices at the pump continue to hover around $2 and just over per gallon. One recent change, which brought some increases in gas prices for Navarre citizens, was the result of the Santa Rosa County amending ordinance no. 2015-19. This amending ordinance, passed in 2015, included a 5-cent local option gas tax.
The tax, which took effect Jan. 1 of this year, allows the county to raise gas prices by as much as 5 cents, with a statewide maximum for tax on the commodity being up to 12 cents. This 12-cent maximum means that no county can have taxes on fuel greater than that 12-cent amount. In conjunction with other existing taxes on gas for Santa Rosa County, the county’s new total for taxes on gas amounts to 11 cents per gallon.
